Decent performances can’t hide this boring hike through the mountains.  The film starts out promising enough with some heavy “lets get to know these characters” moments but unfortunately it never goes anywhere nearly misfiring every step of the way in the second half.  A sloggy movie with absolutely no reason to have its 113 minute runtime. It may have worked as a 90 minute feature but as it is, it’s too long filled with too much walking.

Too melodramatic, poor writing and wooden acting from Tyler Perry himself. I couldn’t stay interested and it’s way too long.

Good performance from Daniel Day-Lewis almost saves a pretty slow, thematically conflicted father/daughter story. Effective and solid soundtrack though.

Solid effort from Van Sant sticking with him 00’s fascination with the younger generation.  Good cinematography and natural performances help elevate the material above a very basic plot.

Good acting with an interesting conman plot. It runs out of steam and the resolution is strangely messy.
